Bio

Jeremy J. Foy was born in Illinois in 1988. He received a BFA from Elmhurst College, 2013 and his MFA at Northern Illinois University, 2016. He is currently an adjunct professor at multiple Colleges and Universities and teaches ceramics at Water Street Studios in Batavia, IL. Jeremy has an obsession with sports and physical activities. His work is an emphasis on both creative and physical prowess, a compression of the rigors of repetitious activity. Combining sport with ceramics, he relates his concept of practice into one cohesive body of work.

Artist Statement

I am addicted to the repetition of movement, creating a personal assembly line with my body. To challenge myself physically to see if I can adjust and adapt to the different small challenges I place my mind on to complete. I am the person who will try to shoot a piece of garbage into the bin and pick it up if I miss and go back to my original spot and attempt again and again until it lands into the garbage can. This small addiction is placing everything on my muscle memory without thought, to have action to quickly become muscle memory and become a reaction rather than an action. I am developing a personal reaction of how I make art. This physical exhaustion of repetition of an action to create art, is a mix of my athletic mindset in my artistic world.
